Research Internship Guidelines

1. Program Overview

The URN Life Sciences Research Internship is a structured, mentor-guided program designed for Masters, Postgraduate, and early-career researchers. The program provides hands-on training across 8 comprehensive modules with real-world project experience.

• Duration: 60 days (One-Time) or 30 days/cycle (Monthly Subscription)
• Mode: On-campus at SOA University + Online sessions
• Location: SOA University, Dept. of Industrial Biotechnology, Bhubaneswar
• Certificate: Internship Completion Certificate upon successful completion
• Deliverables: Thesis/dissertation support, co-authorship opportunity, Letter of Recommendation

3. Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, interns will be able to:

1. Perform molecular biology techniques including PCR, electrophoresis, and cloning
2. Operate analytical instruments (HPLC, GC, spectrophotometer)
3. Use bioinformatics tools for sequence analysis and protein modeling
4. Design and optimize bioprocess workflows
5. Analyze research data using R/Python and statistical tools
6. Apply environmental biotechnology principles to real-world problems
7. Write thesis chapters and publishable manuscripts

4. Schedule & Attendance

• Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM at SOA University lab + online sessions
• Minimum Attendance: 75% attendance is mandatory for certificate eligibility
• Weekly Submissions: Each module requires a weekly assignment/report submission
• Mentor Sessions: Bi-weekly one-on-one mentoring with assigned supervisor
• Progress Tracking: Track your progress in real-time via the Member Dashboard

5. Assessment & Evaluation

• Module Assessments (60%): Weekly assignments, quizzes, and practical submissions
• Final Project (30%): Thesis chapter / research manuscript / data analysis report
• Participation (10%): Attendance, engagement in discussions, peer support
• Passing Criteria: Minimum 60% overall score to receive the certificate

8. Code of Conduct

1. Maintain academic integrity and honesty in all submissions
2. Respect fellow interns, mentors, and institutional staff
3. Submit all assignments by the stipulated deadlines
4. Report any issues or concerns to the program coordinator promptly
5. Represent URN professionally in all academic and professional communications
6. Acknowledge URN appropriately in any publications arising from internship work
